Wolves and Witches

A new ongoing project. Illustrations inspired by various fables, fairy and folk tales both new and old.

Kill the Goose

Illustration based on Aesop's Fable The Goose with the Golden Eggs and the idiom "To kill the goose that laid the golden eggs."

Funeral Lilies

Based on Angela Carter's short story, The Bloody Chamber.

"I shook him awake and rolled over on my side, cradling my spent body in my arms. His voice buzzed like a hive of distant bees. My husband. My husband, who, with so much love, filled my bedroom with lilies until it looked like an embalming parlour. Those somnolent lilies, that wave their heavy heads, distributing their lush, insolent incense reminiscent of pampered flesh." --The Bloody Chamber and Other Stories, page 18

My Mother, She Killed Me; My Father, He Ate Me

Illustration based on The Grimm Brothers retelling of The Juniper Tree

A stepmother kills her stepson and frames her own beloved daughter. Together, they cut up the boy, cook him into a soup and feed him to the father. But the daughter, who loved her stepbrother, is so wrought with grief and guilt that she buries the bones under the juniper tree. The tree bursts into flames and the boy is released as a beautiful bird. He flies off to exact his revenge on the evil stepmother.
