My Mother, She Killed Me

Illustration based on The Grimm Brothers retelling of The Juniper Tree

A stepmother kills her stepson and frames her own beloved daughter. Together, they cut up the boy, cook him into a soup and feed him to the father. But the daughter, who loved her stepbrother, is so wrought with grief and guilt that she buries the bones under the juniper tree. The tree bursts into flames and the boy is released as a beautiful bird. He flies off to exact his revenge on the evil stepmother.
